National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is a non-profit organization
that compiles data from thousands of fires every year. NFPA's findings
provide the basis for building and fire safety codes. The publication
NFPA 211, sets the standard for chimneys, fireplaces, vents and
solid fuel burning appliances for almost all building codes across
the entire country.
For your safety, NFPA 211 mandates that insert
stoves meet specific minimum installation requirements.

here
are numerous opinions floating around about chimneys. Many of them
are incorrect and can even be dangerous. Here are some facts and
fallacies to consider.
FALLACY: Chimney fires
clean out a chimney, leaving it safe and ready to use. FACT: Creosote (the flammable material
fueling the chimney fire) expands dramatically while burning.
The majority of it clings to the chimney flue and puffs up considerably
partially or totally blocking the flue. This tremendous heat can
also split masonry and crack flue liners. A professional inspection
after a chimney fire will reveal problem areas to be addressed
before burning again. FALLACY: A homeowner will always know
when they have had a chimney fire because these fires are very
loud. FACT: This certainly can be true. However,
it is not always so. Some chimney fires are so quiet they are
only discovered after the fact, following a professional inspection. FALLACY: A chimney is designed to have
fires, so a chimney fire poses no threat. FACT: A chimney is designed to pass
relatively cool exhaust gases from the house to the outside air.
It is not designed to withstand the tremendous chimney fire temperatures
of 2,000° or higher. FALLACY: Only chimneys for wood burning
need to be inspected.
FACT: Any chimney, whether it vents wood, coal,
oil, or gas appliances, should be professionally inspected every
year and cleaned if needed. This recommendation comes from the
National Fire Protection Association - an organization exclusively
devoted to saving lives through fire prevention.
WHY
CLEAN AND INSPECT CHIMNEY SYSTEMS?
CLOGGED
DRYER VENTS + LINT + TRAPPED HEAT = FIRE!
P
reventive
maintenance is always more cost-effective than repairs that could
have been avoided. Annual inspections are critical for chimneys
used regularly, but even if used occasionally, a chimney system
(the appliance, any necessary connecting and the chimney itself)
should be routinely inspected and cleaned if necessary.
Inspections & cleaning:
Determin chimney integrity for all types of fuel
Catch problems early - before they cause expensive
trouble
Show changes over time - like seeing a dentist
regularly
Reassure peace of mind
Save money, hassles and potential law suits if
the property is for sale or rent
Are very neat - we guarantee no mess
D
ryers and
their vents are a major source of house fires. Surprised? According
to the National Fire Protection Association, every year, in homes
all across the country, there are thousands of fires caused by dryers
and their venting systems. These fires result in property damage
in the millions, serious injuries, and even death.
Any collection of lint in the vent (due to bird's
nests, vinyl accordion ducting, or poorly installed metal duct)
is a fire hazard. Trapped heat from the dryer can easily ignite
the lint build-up.
If you have a gas dryer and the vent is clogged,
you have a fire hazard - and equally dangerous - the potential for
deadly carbon monoxide leaks.
Not only will cleaning a dryer vent reduce the chance
of a fire but it will increase your dryer's efficiency. We've talked
with people who have reduced drying time by as much as twenty five
percent!
We always use state-of-the-art equipment when we
clean dryer vents. Plus, we always inspect the connections, the
condition of the outside vent and the duct itself.
Over the years, we have become experts in fire prevention
because of our attention to detail and our commitment your safety.
A clean dryer vent offers you peace of mind and will save you money
as well. Call today for a convenient appointment!
CAPS
AND CROWNS
Your chimney top is far from sight,
but clearly exposed to potential problems. A stainless steel chimney
cap and properly constructed chimney crown prevent damaging water
penetration and deny access to birds, other animals and debris.
