here are numerous opinions floating around about chimneys. Many of them are incorrect and can even be dangerous. Here are some facts and fallacies to consider.

FALLACY: Chimney fires clean out a chimney, leaving it safe and ready to use.
FACT: Creosote (the flammable material fueling the chimney fire) expands dramatically while burning. The majority of it clings to the chimney flue and puffs up considerably partially or totally blocking the flue. This tremendous heat can also split masonry and crack flue liners.
